The partnership between DC Comics and BOOM! Studios is starting to look pretty groovy. The Batman ’66 digital-first series has been a delight of old-fashioned storytelling, and BOOM!’s expertise in revitalizing old IP such as Steed & Mrs. Peel is well-documented. The decision to bring together two franchises which enjoyed their heyday at the same time in American pop-culture history seems like a no-brainer, especially now that it’s been officially announced.
DC announced today that June will mark the beginning of a 12-part bi-weekly series from writer Ian Edginton (X-Force, Justice League) and artist Matthew Dow Smith (Justice League: Gods & Monsters – Batman) and will feature a joint adventure between the dynamic duo and the heroes formerly known as The Avengers (before Marvel locked that down in a big way).
As with previous DC Digital releases, the series will be collected in print after having its debut online, with the first issue due to hit comic book shops in the first week of July.

New Digital First Series BATMAN ’66 MEETS STEED AND MRS. PEEL to launch in June
Holy 1960s-TV crossover! Capitalizing on the past success of the Green Hornet and The Man From U.N.C.L.E crossovers, DC Comics is partnering with BOOM! Studios to pair together two of the hippest shows from the ’60s in the new Digital First comic book miniseries BATMAN ’66 MEETS STEED AND MRS. PEEL.
Launching June 8th as a 12-chapter, bi-weekly series based on the classic 1960s Batman TV show starring Adam West and Burt Ward, the comic will feature Batman and Robin coming face-to-face for the first time with the other (and English) dynamic duo John Steed and Mrs. Peel – characters from the hit ’60s British TV series The Avengers starring Patrick Macnee and Diana Rigg.
Critically acclaimed British comic book writer Ian Edginton (X-Force, JUSTICE LEAGUE) has been tapped to pen the series, joined by artist Matthew Dow Smith (JUSTICE LEAGUE: GODS & MONSTERS – BATMAN). Cover artists include BATMAN ’66 veteran Michael Allred and fan-favorite artist Cat Staggs, who contributes a variant cover for issue #1.
Following the digital release in June, the comic will debut as a print periodical in July as a 6-issue series. Below is the first issue description and attached is the cover by Michael Allred:
As Bruce Wayne shows the beautiful head of a UK electronics company the sights of Gotham, they are interrupted by the felonious feline Catwoman! Unwilling to leave Miss Michaela Gough unprotected, Bruce resigns himself to the fact that Batman cannot save the day. But some new players have arrived in town – though even as the lovely, catsuit-clad Mrs. Peel and her comrade John Steed take control of the situation, nefarious plots continue apace!
